Bio
Coach John Cochran enters his 3rd season for St. Andrews University as the head coach and program director for the mens and womens Cross Country and Indoor/Outdoor Track and Field teams.
Cochran began his collegiate coaching career as a Strength and Conditioning Intern at Virginia Tech. From there, Coach Cochran was an Assistant Coach for the track team at Radford University before becoming the Head Coach and Physical Education instructor at Plattsburgh State University.
In 2016, John accepted the head coaching role for the Track and Field program at Averett University which he continued through the 2017 season.
Additionally, Cochran has been a Training Specialist for the Army National Guard from 2014-2019. John is also a part of the Aerobics and Fitness Association of America and U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Association.
Since his St. Andrews tenure, Coach Cochran has had five of his athletes set school records and began university competition in the Decathlon, Heptathlon and Pole Vault. Before St. Andrews, athletes under John have broken 15 school records, produced eight conference champions, five state champions and a national event champion.
John's running career at Radford was a fulfilling four years of Track and Field, three years of Cross Country and two years of Swimming. He also competed for two years at Virginia Tech in the rigorous Triathlon event.
When John isn't coaching on the track, he can be found traveling, training for his next Triathlon and mapmaking.
Coach Cochran currently resides in Laurinburg, N.C. with his wife Meg where they have two children Cheyenne and Zack.
