Women's Lacrosse Falls to Nyack College

Laurinburg, NC – The Women's Lacrosse team fell behind by five at halftime against the Nyack Warriors before losing the non-conference game 20-7.

St. Andrews drops to 2-5 on the season. Nyack College improves to 1-1 overall.

How It Happened

St. Andrews fell behind 2-0 before Asiah Dewberry (FR/Sebring, FL) scored to make it a 2-1 game. An own goal by Nyack tied the game at two apiece.

The Warriors responded with two more goals before Shania Johnson (FR/Hickory, NC) scored off a Kelsey Houser (SR/Connelly Springs, NC) assist to make it 4-3.

Nyack stayed in front with four more goals to lead 8-3 in the first half. Johnson scored with a minute and a half left in the first, but Nyack scored again before the end of the first half to take a 9-4 halftime lead.

St. Andrews had 8 shots while Nyack had 16. The Knights tallied 14 ground balls and the Warriors ended the first half with 24.

The Warriors scored three goals in under eight minutes after the break. Alia Loyd put one in the back of the net to make it a 12-5 game.

Nyack extended their lead with three more goals for a 15-5 advantage. Kelsey Houser scored a goal and a little over a minute later a free shot led to a goal for Kara Cheers (FR/Shallotte, NC). St. Andrews still trailed 15-7.

The Warriors ended the game scoring five straight and winning the game 20-7.

St. Andrews had 14 shots to the Warriors 30. The Knights gave up the ball 15 times while Nyack had 12 turnovers. St. Andrews finished with 22 ground balls and Nyack had 29.

Kelsey Houser had one goal (one shot) and one assist. Houser also tallied 4 ground balls.
