Women's Lacrosse falls to Methodist
LAURINBURG, N.C. – The St. Andrews University women's lacrosse team suffered their first loss of the season on Tuesday afternoon as they fell 18-4 to DIII Methodist University.
How It Happened
Methodist came out with a quick goal from Keegan Foyles within the first 4 minutes of the game to take the early lead. St. Andrews pocketed a goal of their own off a shot from Karlie Holman just over a minute after MU scored, tying the game 1-1.
The Monarchs would break lose during the next 20 minutes of the first half, scoring 9 goals against the Knights before halftime.
Going into halftime, SAU's goalie Olivia Bartlett led with 7 saves on 19 shots, with the Monarchs recording 10 goals. St. Andrews was limited to just 4 shots and one goal from Holman.
Kelsey Houser opened the second half with a goal for SAU, but Methodist quickly responded with two goals of their own. Freshman Alia Loydd recorded a goal for St. Andrews with 14 minutes remaining on the clock, making the score 12-3.
The offense of Methodist continued to find the back of the net as they tacked on 4 additional goals before Shania Johnson scored the final goal of the game for St. Andrews. The Monarchs then went on to record two more goals in the final 5 minutes of the game, securing the 18-4 win.

Alia Loydd led the Knights with 5 ground balls while also recording a goal in the season opener.
Faith Hildebran and Shania Johnson each collected two draw controls against the Monarchs.
