Knights Fall to Skyhawks on the Road
West Point, GA – St. Andrews Women's Basketball kept the game tight in the first half, but the Point Skyhawks outscored the Knights 27-14 in the third quarter to help them take the conference win, 76-65.
The Knights drop to 4-12 overall and 3-12 in the Appalachian Athletic Conference. Point University improves to 6-10 in the conference and 9-11 overall.
How It Happened
Courtney Rowe (SR/Sand Rock, AL) nailed a three pointer to start the game. Point went on an 8-0 run for the early first quarter lead. Natalee Graham (SO/York, SC) gave the Knights a 15-13 lead with a made shot after a steal from Samantha Ring (SR/Carthage, NC). Point responded to end the first quarter up 19-17.
St. Andrews fell behind as many as seven points in the second quarter, but the Knights battled back. A three from Dominique Cooke (SO/Fayetteville, NC) tied the Knights and Skyhawks at 34 apiece. Yontyanna Melvin (SR/Gastonia, NC) made a shot to go into the half down two, 38-36.
The Knights shot 48 percent from the field and 44 percent from three in the first half. St. Andrews had 18 rebounds to Point's 14. Cooke led the Knights with 10 first half points.
Cooke kept her hot hand with a three to take the lead at the start of the second half. However, Point went on a 15-4 scoring run to lead 53-43 halfway through the third quarter.
Point continued to push their lead outscoring the Knights 27-14 in the third. St. Andrews entered the fourth quarter down 65-50.
Ring made a two pointer and Rowe followed it up with a three to bring the Knights within six, 70-64 with under four minutes left to play. Point responded with a three of their own and then made their shots down the stretch to hold on to the win.
St. Andrews fell to the Skyhawks 76-65.
Key Stats
The Knights ended the game shooting 44 percent from the field and 39 percent from behind the arc. St. Andrews shot only 54 percent from the charity stripe.
Point shot 47 percent and 55 percent from the field and three-point line respectively. The Skyhawks also shot 83 percent from the free throw line.
The Knights outrebounded the Skyhawks 31-24 and had 15 team assists to 12 Skyhawk assists. St. Andrews turned the ball over 24 times while Point had 20 turnovers.
Knights Leaders
Sophomore Guard Dominique Cooke led the Knights with 15 points on 5 of 12 shooting from the field and 3 of 8 shooting from the three-point line. Cooke tallied 3 boards, 2 assists and a steal.
Senior Guard Courtney Rowe had 12 points on 4 of 5 shooting from the three-point line. Rowe also added 5 assists, 5 rebounds, a block and 2 steals.
Senior Guard Samantha Ring went 5 of 10 from the field for 12 points. Ring picked up an assist, 4 rebounds, 2 blocks and 2 steals.

The women's basketball team will remain on the road for another conference matchup against Montreat College. The Knights will travel to Montreat, NC on Wednesday (Jan 22nd) for a 5:30 p.m. tip-off.
