Knights XC Competes at Yeti Invitational

The Men's and Women's Cross Country teams both participated at their first event of the season at the inaugural Yeti Invitational hosted by Cleveland Community College. Although the teams did not meet the criteria to compete as a team, the women's side placed two runners; Leone Van Rooyen and Gracen McLain (Greensboro, NC) both timed well enough to earn placements. On the men's side freshman Shawn Garrett (Raeford, NC) earned a placing score for the Knights.

On the men's side, Garrett ran a tremendous race for his first ever collegiate event by posting a placement of 33rd out of 43 runners, and outrunning a majority of upperclassmen from other competing schools. His total time of 35:45 averaged out to about 7:11 per mile and will be a great debut that the freshman can look to build on his next time out.

Jared Gesford although making the trip and entering the competition did not place.

The women's team was led by junior runner Leone Van Rooyen who finished the three mile race in 26:07 pacing herself at an average of 8:24 per mile, good enough for 29th out of the 44 runners who placed on the women's side.

Gracen McLain wasn't too far behind her as she finshed at the 27:22 mark and paced out at around an 8:48 per mile time. McLain's score was good enough for 34th in the women's competition.
