Bio
Coach Sonora began his collegiate playing career at St. Andrews in 2016 where he remained for three years as a starting right back and wing player until 2018. Sonora then made a move to Wesley College in Delaware where he spent his 2020 season as a full time starter and also where he met current St. Andrews head coach Steve Clark.
After his short hiatus from Laurinburg, Sonora returned for the 2021 season as a player, where he scored three goals, and registered three assists on the season. The 2021 men's soccer team also had a historic run in the postseason by beating the Montreat Cavaliers in the first game of the postseason in which Sonora scored the winning goal, and then knocking off #16 nationally ranked and the #1 seed in the AAC Tournament in Columbia International Univeristy to advance to the semifinals.
Outside of his playing career, Sonora holds a USSF "D" license and has experience coaching U12 and U15 soccer at his time in Acapulco, Mexico.
When asked about how he was feeling, Sonora responded gratefully by stating, "I would like to say thank you to Elizabeth Burris for giving me this opportunity and a thank you to Coach Steve for teaching me almost all I know about the game. I would also like to thank Steve Clark for allowing me to apply everything that I have learned."
Sonora received his undergraduate degree in Business and his minor in Sport Management. In 2022, Sonora also received his Master's of Business Administration from St. Andrews.
When he's not coaching on the soccer field, Coach Sonora likes to stay active by working out and playing pick up soccer on the weekends.
