Posada's goal and Parini's clutch save propel Knights
COLUMBIA, Ky.- The St. Andrews University men's soccer team split their two matches over the weekend falling 3-0 to #23 Lindsey Wilson College on Saturday night before edging Bethel University (Tenn.) 4-3 on Sunday evening in the NAIA Southeast Challenge in Kentucky.

A game-winning goal by sophomore midfielder Manu Posada (SO/Cadiz, Spain) in the 88th minute and a clutch penalty kick save from freshman goalkeeper Valentino Parini (FR/Milan, Italy) in the final five seconds helped lead the Knights to a big non-conference win over the NAIA's Bethel Wildcats (1-3).
Posada led SAU on the day with two goals as he scored his first in the 30th minute off an assist from senior midfielder Jacob Wright (SR/Panama City, FL) giving SAU a 2-0 lead at the break. Freshman midfielder Andres Carvajal (FR/Caracas, Venezuela) opened the scoring for SAU with a goal in the 8th minute off an assist from senior Jason Lawyer (SR/Hiroshima, Japan). Carvajal also assisted on Posada's game-winning goal as well.
After Bethel cut the deficit to one with a goal in the 50th minute, SAU's sophomore forward Julio Rico (SO/Madrid, Spain) scored in the 63rd minute assisted by Manu Escalera (JR/Valencia, Spain) to put St. Andrews back in front by two at 3-1. However, Bethel came right back with a goal a minute later before the Wildcats tied it up in the 78th minute.
Parini finished the game making six saves on nine shots as he totaled 12 saves on the weekend. Bethel outshot SAU overall 31-18 with St. Andrews having more shots on goal (10 to 9) led by Posada's six.
St. Andrews, now 3-1, will next face another NAIA school, Brewton-Parker College (Ga.) on Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. BPC is 1-2 this season.
