Allen outmuscles Knights
COLUMBIA, SC - The St. Andrews University men's basketball team dropped their game to Allen University (S.C.) 86-76 on the road Saturday afternoon.
A close first half saw the Yellow Jackets lead by seven, 41-34 going into the break. In the second half, the Knights would rally back with threes from senior shooting guards Titus Gary (SR/Fayetteville, NC) and Lee Vanderhorst (SR/Charleston, SC) to cut Allen's lead to one at 66-65. However, SAU faltered from there as Allen went on a 15-5 run to close it out and go on to win 86-76.
Allen shot 68 percent from the field in the win while SAU shot 54.7 percent and 56 percent from three.
Four players scored in double-figures for the Knights. St. Andrews also committed only five turnovers. Vanderhorst led SAU with 18 points on 6 of 9 shooting while Gary added 14 points, three rebounds, and three 3-pointers.
Junior forward Jordan Hines (JR/Chester, SC) then scored 12 points with four rebounds and two assists while freshman forward Connor Zinaich (FR/Boonsboro, MD) added 10 points with four rebounds. Senior forward Walter Smalls (SR/Charleston, SC) also added seven points while freshman guard Zach Boggs (FR/Sanford, NC) made two threes for 6 points.
St. Andrews falls to 6-12 overall and 5-7 in the AAC while Allen improves to 8-11 and 6-7 in AAC.
SAU will next be in action on Wednesday when they travel to Union College (19-3) to face the 2nd ranked Bulldogs in Kentucky at 7:30 p.m.
