St. Andrews Wins "Knights Classic" Over Kentucky Christian

LAURINBURG, N.C. - After weeks of knocking on the door, St. Andrews football finally jumped into the win column after a 35-24 victory over Kentucky Christian (2-4, 1-1 AAC) at Knights Stadium Saturday afternoon. With the win, St. Andrews (1-5, 1-1 AAC) wins the Knights Classic for the second time in three years.

Not only was the win the first for the Knights this season, but it was head coach Steven Harris' first at the helm of the St. Andrews football team.

There was no shortage of excitement as the biggest turning point of the game came in the third quarter when D'Vonte Allen (SO/Marion, S.C.) capped off a three-play 80-yard drive with a 66-yard touchdown to give St. Andrews a 17-22 lead.

Kentucky Christian was able to answer and push the score to 24-22 with 8:10 left in the third quarter.

After opening up the fourth quarter with a missed field goal, the St. Andrews defense overcame a defensive pass interference and forced Kentucky Christian to punt. Backed into the SAU endzone the football bounced off of Allen's face before recovering it and taking it down the field for a 90-yard touchdown and a 24-28 blue and white lead.

With more than 10 minutes left in the game, Kentucky Christian continued to believe that their offense could provide an answer until A'ndreon Nelson (FR) was able to perfectly read Justin White's pass for a 60-yard touchdown interception.

Allen finished the day with 114 rushing yards on 10 attempts and added two punt returns for 113 yards.

Quarterback Austin Wallace (SO/Royal Palm, Fla.) finished with 82 yards and a passing touchdown. Elusive wide receiver Kashard Cohens scored his sixth touchdown of the season and finished with six catches and 63 yards.

Austin Hunt (JR/Fayetteville, N.C.) had another huge game with 12 tackles, while Monte Williams (JR/Raleigh, N.C.) added 10 tackles, a sack, and two tackles for loss.

Kentucky Christian finished with 301 passing yards and held the Knights to 82 yards in the air. On the ground, it was just the opposite as St. Andrews finished with 277 rushing yards to 103 by KCU.

While the Knights will celebrate tonight, they will quickly turn their attention to Bluefield who is looking for their first conference victory. Kickoff with the Rams is set for 6:00 pm on Saturday, October 23 in Bluefield, WV
